Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized the nation's top high school football players at the conclusion of the season. Past members of the MaxPreps Sophomore All-America Team include Derrick Henry (2010), Deshaun Watson (2011), Christian Kirk (2012), Nick Bosa (2013), Tee Higgins (2014), Trevor Lawrence (2015), Kayvon Thibodeaux (2016), Bryce Young (2017), and Caleb Williams (2018).
Bryce Underwood of
Belleville (Mich.) headlines a group of 60 players selected to the 2022 MaxPreps Sophomore All-America Team. He was named the MaxPreps Michigan Player of the Year after accounting for nearly 3,400 yards of total offense and 45 touchdowns. He led the Tigers to a 14-0 record and second consecutive Division 1 state title.
Stone Saunders of
Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) joins Underwood as the other first team selection at the quarterback position. They were the only two sophomores to be selected as a MaxPreps State Player of the Year. He led the Crusaders to a 13-1 record and to their first state title since 1995.
In total, 51 different schools had at least one selection.
Selections are based on team success, individual production and local, regional and state honors from recently-completed season. Potential at the college and professional level is not a primary consideration.
