The University of Notre Dame launched its 2012 football recruiting with a bang this week when it received a commitment from
T'Ajani Shephard, an outstanding defensive back from Central (Fresno, Calif.), according to the Fresno Bee.
CBS/MaxPreps recruiting analyst Tom Lemming ranks the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder as the best junior safety prospect in the country, although he currently stars as a cornerback.
Shepard also had offers from the likes of the University of Southern California, Alabama, Auburn and Miami.
Central coach Casey Quinn told the Bee, "He's got all the intangibles – great legs, hands and field awareness. He's very competitive, is academically sound and is a quality young person. He's got all the things you want in a D-1 corner, especially Notre Dame."
