With the 2021 Nebraska high school football season half over, several of the Cornhusker State's top talents are playing at a rather high level.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's Kellen Eggleston, however, was the Cornhusker State's hot receiver in late August. Not only did the junior score six touchdowns catching the football, he latched on to 13 aerials for 291 yards in the record breaking 101-80 loss to Arthur County to grab this week's No. 1 spot.
Gunner Reimers of Palmer sits in the runner-up position after scoring nine times and converting nine 2-point conversions in an 86-72 win over Nebraska Lutheran September 17. The senior carried the football 51 times for 422 yards and the nine touchdowns to score 72 points in the contest.
Elmwood-Murdock running back Cade Hosier sits third after running for 362 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries in a 74-50 win over Mead, while Jack Wemhoff of Elgin Public/Pope John scored twice on his way to 357 yards rushing on 39 carries in a 66-36 triumph over High Plains Community to come in at No. 4.
Bennington's Dylan Mostek rounds out the Top 5 after carrying the football 25 times for 355 yards and five touchdowns in a 45-20 win over Northwest in late August.
Classes A, B, D1, D2 and D6 are all represented in this week's Top 10. But plenty of Class C1 and Class C2 athletes performed at a high level as well. Raymond Central's Conner Kreikemeier caught eight footballs for 197 yards and three touchdowns in a 46-16 win over Falls City to lead Class C1 while Class C2 was led by Yutan's Sam Petersen, who caught seven footballs for 183 yards and a score in a triumph over Ponca.
Nebraska Lutheran is the only Cornhusker State school to have at least two athletes make this week's Top 10. Dylan Mostek of Bennington rushed for over 300 yards against two different opponents this fall as did Plattsmouth's Christian Meneses. Meneses, however, did not make this week's Top 10 with either of his 300 yard rushing performances.
Besides grabbing the No. 6 spot with his seven catch, 229 yard and three touchdown performance, Trenton Marquez of Bayard also scored twice while catching six footballs for 218 yards against Morrill. His Morrill performance did not make this week's Top 10.
