Oil City (Pa.) running back
Ethen Knox
continued the dominant start to his senior campaign Friday, rushing for 356
yards and three touchdowns in three quarters of action as the Oilers
cruised past
Corry (Pa.) 44-7. The 356-yard night built on an opening week performance that saw him rush for 218 yards and six touchdowns.
Knox did most of his damage in the first half on Friday. He carried the rock 16 times for 165 yards in the first quarter and added 16 more carries in the second quarter to raise his rushing total to 278 yards along with three scores as Oil City led 30-7 at the intermission.
Knox scored on a four-yard touchdown run to give Oil City a 14-7 advantage late in the first quarter, tacked on another score from nine yards out early in the second to stretch the Oilers lead to 22-7. His final score was a four-yard scamper with five minutes remaining before the half. The Oilers cruised to the victory in the second half, extending their lead on a pair of
Kevin Pearsall touchdowns.
Knox had a heavy workload Friday in the lopsided victory as he racked up 42 carries.
As a junior, The 6-foot-1, 190-pound back ran 385 times for 3,705 yards and 41 touchdowns. He topped the 400-yard mark six times in 2002, breaking the previous record of four held by Derrick Henry.
Knox became the fifth player in PIAA District 10 history to surpass 6,000 career rushing yards Friday and has a strong opportunity to break the all-time District 10 record of 7,027 yards within his next few games.
Knox and Oil City look to continue their perfect start to the 2023 campaign when they host North East on Sept. 8.
