Aquinas'
first score came after a miscue by Cypress Bay, when a punt snap sailed
high and Aquinas recovered. Aquinas quickly turned it into a score, as
Fred Coppet found the end zone on a 4-yard run to give Aquinas a 7-0 lead.
Aquinas
had a chance to tack on to its lead, but a long field goal attempt
sailed wide. Cypress Bay had an opportunity to get on the board before
halftime, but also missed a field goal attempt as time expired. Aquinas
took its 7-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the nation's No. 4 team turned it up a notch.
With
less than eight minutes to play in the third quarter, Coppet struck
again, dancing his way into the end zone for a 6-yard score. Backfield
mate
Dami Ayoola then got into the action with a 60-yard touchdown jaunt, making it 21-0 with 4:52 left in the third.
Before
the third quarter ended, Ayoola would strike again to put the game out
of reach, 28-0. Aquinas also added two late field goal.
