USA Basketball announced the 52 athletes expected to participate in the U16 National Team training camp in Colorado Springs, Colo., running from May 21-26.
The 12-member team will be announced prior to departing for the FIBA U16 Women's AmeriCup, scheduled for June 16-22 in Irapuato, Mexico.
Athletes attending training camp were selected by the
USA Basketball Women’s Developmental National Team Committee,
which is chaired by director Brianna Weiss
.
Steve Gomez of Lubbock Christian University will serve as the head coach along with assistants Brittany Johnson of
Evanston (Ill.)
and Krystle Johnson of
Hoover (Ala.)
. Supporting as coaches during training camp will be Monique Boykins of
Cheltenham (Wyncote, Pa.)
and Nicole Collins of
Cedar Hill (Texas)
.
The AmeriCup features eight teams from the FIBA Americas zone with the top four teams advancing to the 2026 FIBA U17 Women's World Cup in Czechia. The USA drew Group A with Argentina, Puerto Rico and Venezuela and are 13-0 all time against those countries.
The Americans have won gold in seven of the eight editions of the tournament, including the last four.
