No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) won its opening round playoff game in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 bracket against Bishop Amat (La Puente) 63-23.
Kody Epps added to his impressive senior campaign and hauled in five touchdown receptions giving him 23 on the season.
In the same postseason bracket No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) cruised to a dominant 63-7 win over Calabasas. Up next for the Braves is Centennial (Corona) who will jump into the Top 25 in next week's rankings after a 56-0 win over JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano).
No. 8 Katy was in a competitive first round matchup in the UIL Texas 6A Division playoffs. They outscored Ridge Point (Missouri City) 21-7 in the second half and won 35-28. Up next for the Tigers is an 11-0 Cy-Fair team in the second round.
The Georgia 7A playoffs kicked off this week and both Top 25 teams rolled to easy victories. No. 12 Lowndes (Valdosta) won 38-8 against Hillgrove (Powder Springs) and No. 18 McEachern (Powder Springs) beat North Paulding (Dallas) 47-29.
No. 22 Corner Canyon (Draper) beat Lone Peak (Highland) for the second time this year and rolled to a 34-7 win to advance to the 6A Utah state championship. They have won 25 consecutive games and will face American Fork on Nov. 22 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
The only Top 25 team to lose was Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) who lost to Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) in the WCAC semifinals. No. 24 St. John's (Washington, D.C.) beat DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) in the other semifinal and the WCAC championship will be on Nov. 24 at Catholic University (Washington, D.C.).
