Video: Ball drops in off top of backboardSteinert's Lynzie Morgan makes an unbelievable shot. When trying to bank in a shot, most basketball players aim for the white box above the rim.
Lynzie Morgan upped the degree of difficulty.
During Tuesday's game against Hamilton West, the
Steinert (Hamilton, N.J.) sophomore guard made one of the most unorthodox bank shots you'll ever see.
Morgan received a pass under the basket and shot towards the hoop, but the ball landed on top of the backboard. Normally the ball continues over the backboard out of bounds, but this time it miraculously rested atop the backboard for at least a full second before dropping back into the basket.
As you can see in the video, the crowd and bench were both ecstatic.
Like most of us, however, Steinert coach Kristin Jacobs wondered if the ball would be considered out of bounds.
"I personally looked toward the official and he made no motion to wave it off," she said. "The new rule this year includes the top of the backboard as in bounds. There is a decent gap between the top of our backboard and our apparatus. As long as it didn't hit that it was still in bounds and found its way into the basket."
Morgan will forever be remembered by her teammates and coaches for her amazing shot, but don't expect it to become a regular part of her arsenal.
"I bet she could try that 600 more times and it would never go in," said Jacobs.
