The high school football season in Texas came to a close over the weekend. Austin Westlake was among the victors with a 40-21 win over Denton Guyer in the UIL 6A Division II finals. That victory helped propel the Chaparrals to the No. 1 ranking in the final Texas MaxPreps Top 25.
Austin Westlake completed its unbeaten season and sent retiring head coach Todd Dodge out a winner with the school's third straight UIL title - and Dodge's seventh crown over all. In the finals, Texas Player of the Year
Cade Klubnik threw for 280 yards and four scores, including three to wideout
Jaden Greathouse, to run the Chaps win streak to 40 games.
In his eighth season as head coach for the Chaps, Dodge went a remarkable
104-13, including 16-0 this season when Westlake outscored
opponents 898-142.
In the 6A Division I finals, North Shore (Houston) downed Duncanville 17-10 in a rematch of the 2018 and 2019 finals. The Mustangs land No. 2 in the final Texas MaxPreps Top 25 rankings as a 39-yard touchdown pass from freshman
Kaleb Bailey to
David Amador with 2 minutes, 53 seconds remaining lifted Mustangs to the title.
