The high school football season in Ohio came to a close over the weekend.
St. Edward (Lakewood) was among the winners, beating
Springfield in the Division I state championship game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton. That victory helped propel the Eagles to the No. 1 ranking in the final state MaxPreps Top 25.
Marvin Bell Jr. ran for 170 yards and a pair of scores to help St. Edward upend Springfield 28-14 in the state title contest, giving the Eagles their second state title and sixth in school history.
Casey Bullock added 101 yards and a touchdown on the ground while completing 8 of 13 passes for 102 yards and a score for the champions.
Billy Skripac of
South Range (Canfield) and
Tayden Carpenter of
Ironton put on an air show in the Division V championship game. South Range, which grabbed the No. 8 spot in the final rankings, won the battle of unbeatens 53-27 after Skripac threw for 331 yards and three scores. Carpenter countered with 325 yards and four touchdowns.
