Nebraska's Top 10 girls basketball games for January-February
1. Class C1 No. 2 Bishop Neumann (Wahoo) (11-0) at Class C1 No. 3 Lincoln Christian (Lincoln) (11-2), Jan. 31Bishop Neumann won the first clash between these two C1 powers 69-67 in late December at the Wahoo/Bishop Neumann Holiday Tournament when Lincoln Christian's rally from a 13-point deficit with two minutes left came up short. This time the Crusaders play host.
Mady Maly, one of four returning Class C1 all-staters, leads the way for Bishop Neumann. Lincoln Christian will put the other three –
Chloe Dworak,
Emie Hollenbeck and
Taytem Coleman – on the floor.
2. Class C1 No. 7 Pierce (10-2) at Class D1 No. 1 Guardian Angels Central Catholic (West Point) (9-1), Feb. 9These two northeast Nebraska powerhouses hold eight girls state basketball titles between them since 2002. And they usually put on a great show when they meet on the basketball court. Heck, just a year ago, Guardian Angels Central Catholic rallied from a 16-point deficit to win 47-46 on Kate Knobbe's game winner with 5 seconds left.
Hailey Race is Pierce's floor general, dishing out 5.5 assists per contest.
Carly Sutherland is Pierce's leading scorer with 12.3 points on average.
Lexis Haase and
Maddie Knobbe carry Central Catholic into this fantastic matchup of Bluejays.
3. Class B No. 3 Elkhorn South (Elkhorn) (9-1) at Class B No. 1 Elkhorn (11-0), Feb. 14A week ago this was a No. 1 vs. No. 2 battle. But, hey, we can't be too picky here. Nothing like a terrific crosstown rivalry to end the regular season.
Brooke Carlson steers the Antlers into this classic. Elkhorn South, meanwhile, will lean on
Maddie Hayes,
Lindley Daubert and
Jennae Patras.

4. Class D1 No. 3 Meridian (Daykin) (10-2) at Class D2 No. 3 Exeter-Milligan (Exeter) (10-2), Jan. 17With two of the best guards in the state taking the floor in this one, how can you go wrong? Both of these clubs are ranked third in their respective classifications making this a must-see game.
Erin Johnson is the floor general for Meridian, while
Samantha Horne will lead the way for Exeter-Milligan in this small school tussle.
5. Class C2 No. 16 Superior (9-3) at Class D2 No. 13 Red Cloud (9-1), Jan. 26Superior won its first state tournament basketball game since 2000 a year ago. Red Cloud moved into the state tournament semifinals last March as well. And when do you suppose the Warriors last accomplished that feat? Yes. They last tasted state tournament victory in 2000 before falling to Falls City Sacred Heart in the D1 final. Now, both of these clubs are looking for more.
Kalynn Meyer pulls down more than 13 rebounds and blocks nearly four shots for Superior, while
Nicki Kirchhoff swipes more than four enemy balls for the Wildcats. Sophomore
Mary Nibbe rips the cords for almost 14 points for Red Cloud.
6. Class D1 No. 9 Elgin/Pope John (Elgin) (11-2) at Class C2 No. 9 Humphrey/Holy Family (Humphrey) (9-2), Jan. 26Both of these schools are used to having their way with most of their opponents. But defense should keep this one close. Both clubs give up just more than 33 points a contest. The Bulldogs will lean on rebounder extraordinaire
Taya Beller, who averages 10.6 boards per outing.
Baylee Wemhoff is dishing out nearly five assists a night as she leads the Wolfpack into battle.
7. Wyoming Class 2A No. 1 Pine Bluffs (Wyo.) (10-0) at Class D2 No. 9 Potter-Dix (Potter) (7-2), Jan. 27Defending Wyoming 2A state champion Pine Bluffs crosses the state line in this tussle. While
Kammie Ragsdale had the hot hand early in the season, averaging 15 points a game through three contests, it's returning all-state guard
Jadyn Golding that runs the show for Lindsey Forbes. Jeff Einspahr will get a good look at how his club stands up against a state championship team. He will rely on
Alexus Rozelle,
Audrey Juelfs and
Dawson Sharman to lead the way.
8. Class A No. 12 Benson (Omaha) (6-4) at Class A No. 11 Omaha North (Omaha) (6-4), Feb. 3A trio of sophomores lead the way for Melvin Blair and the Bunnies in a battle of teams ranked just outside of the Cornhusker State's big school Top 10.

Class D2 No. 2 St. Mary's (O'Neill) (9-2) at Class D2 No. 7 Sandhills/Thedford (Dunning) (8-3), Jan. 20Having been to the last five state basketball tournaments, Traci Berg is building a powerhouse basketball program at St. Mary's. The Knights themselves have made it to Lincoln at the conclusion of four of the last five seasons. Both clubs appear to have what it takes to punch their ticket one more time.
Hattie Blumenstock and
Logan Connot lead the way for the Cardinals with 15.1 and 12.5 points respectively.
Taylor Colman dishes out 4.3 assists an outing.
Marlee Taylor and
Kyra Miles split the scoring honors right down the middle for Sandhills/Thedford coach Jordan Arensdorf with 11.3 and 11.4 points per game respectively.
