The Alameda Pirates will venture away from home to face off against the Kennedy Commanders at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Alameda is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Alameda will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Thursday, then bounced right back against Jefferson on Monday. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 20-8 margin over the Saints. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Saints: they've now won four in a row.
Alameda got a massive performance out of Peyton Trujillo, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Kristell Guerra was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs.
Alameda kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.6.
Meanwhile, Kennedy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 25-12 to Pueblo East.
Alexiah Lunas made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Genesis Lujan, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Alameda's victory bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Kennedy, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10-1.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alameda hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. However, it's not like Kennedy struggles in that department as they've averaged .428. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Alameda skirted past Kennedy 19-17 in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
