It's playoff time, and Pinecrest Academy had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Skipstone Academy Warriors with a sharp 17-2 victory on Friday. The Paladins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by ten runs or more this season.
Charles Dodson and Lucas Miles were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Dodson struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Meanwhile, Miles pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Dodson went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Miles went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Miles a new career-high.
In other batting news, Liam McCavitt was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Matthew Mitchell, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Pinecrest Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .521. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Skipstone Academy only posted an OBP of .310.
Pinecrest Academy is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Skipstone Academy, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16.
Coming up, Pinecrest Academy will square off against Scholars Guild Academy on Friday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Paladins' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Skipstone Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
