Baseball Game Preview: Hillcrest Trojans vs. Mayfair Monsoons

The Hillcrest Trojans will challenge the Mayfair Monsoons at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Last Monday, Hillcrest made easy work of La Sierra and carried off a 7-1 victory. Considering the Trojans have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Niko Bernal, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Ramos, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Mayfair never got on the board in their matchup on Saturday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Norwalk on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Lancers.

Mayfair got a massive performance out of Aidan Sullivan, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Mayfair is undefeated when Sullivan posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Nolan Fox was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Mayfair always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Norwalk only posted an OBP of .310.

Hillcrest has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. Mayfair's victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Mayfair's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hillcrest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .378.
