Basketball Recap: Fillmore Comes Up Short

After soaring to 61 points the game before, Fillmore was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 81-25 loss at the hands of the St. Bonaventure Seraphs. The defeat continues a trend for the Flashes in their matchups with the Seraphs: they've now lost three in a row.

Several Flashes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Yaneli Landin, who posted seven points. Landin has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hermelinda Ocegueda, who had four points and five rebounds.

St. Bonaventure got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sarah Cosio out in front who went 9 of 16 on her way to 22 points and four steals. Bella Rico was another key player, going 9 for 17 en route to 24 points and seven boards.

Fillmore's loss dropped their record down to 7-16. As for St. Bonaventure, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fillmore will head out to take on Channel Islands at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fillmore is facing Channel Islands at the right time seeing as Channel Islands is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for St. Bonaventure, they are taking a road trip to square off against Thacher at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Bonaventure knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Thacher likes a good challenge.
