Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) on Monday announced Steve Turner has been chosen to replace Kevin Boyle as its new head basketball coach.
Turner comes to the Florida powerhouse from No. 9
Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.), where he compiled a 497-176 (.738 win percentage) record over the past 21 seasons. The Eagles are 29-5 and won the DCSAA Class AA title after finishing runner-up in this year's WCAC tournament.
He steps into a position vacated by Boyle, who announced he was leaving the school after this season to take a similar role at Spire.
"Although this opportunity presented itself quickly, I did not make my decision lightly," Turner wrote on X. "I've speny half of my life on Eye Street, committed to serving as a Man for Others. I have given my heart and soul to Gonzaga for 26 years; and, in turn, Gonzaga has helped to shape me into the coach, mentor, father and person that I am today."

He will join Montverde as it competes this week in the Chipotle Nationals in Indiana. The Eagles are 19-7 and No. 7 in the National Top 10.
Turner was the six-time WCAC Coach of the Year in addition to numerous other accolades. He has been the head coach for the USA Men's Nike Hoop Summit Team and led the Men's Junior National Select Team to victory over the World Select Team.
"Coach Turner's incredible reputation in the elite boys basketball arena speaks for itself, and we are honored to have such a respected man of integrity represent Montverde Academy," said Jon Hopman, Montverde Academy Head of School. "His reputation is built not only on his teams' successes but also on his dedication to mentoring young athletes, emphasizing personal growth, academic achievement, and athletic excellence."
Boyle arrived at Montverde Academy prior to the 2011-12 season following a stint at
St. Patrick (Hillside, N.J.)
from 1989-2011. He quickly built the Florida program into a national
powerhouse, coaching the likes of Scottie Barnes, R.J. Barrett, Cade
Cunningham, Jalen Duren, Joel Embiid, Kyrie Irving and D'Angelo Russell
along with the projected top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft Cooper Flagg.
Under
Boyle's leadership, Montverde has been recognized as a national
champion by MaxPreps in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2024. The
coaching legend won 91 percent of his games during his 14 seasons with
the program, guiding them to a record of 363-33 with 13 consecutive top
10 finishes in the national rankings (this year would mark 14 straight).
