The Point Loma Pointers will take on the Torrey Pines Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Torrey Pines took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Point Loma, who comes in off a win.
Point Loma barely beat Mira Mesa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Point Loma's pitchers stepped up to hand Mira Mesa a 10-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Pointers have beaten the Marauders the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Marauders has come to flipping the script.
Luis Lara looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Phoenix Brant, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Gomez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Point Loma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Torrey Pines fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against San Pasqual on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Golden Eagles by a score of 5-4.
Jack Swanberg put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Swanberg was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Swanberg wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Young, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Another was Liam Moran, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.
Point Loma now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Torrey Pines, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Torrey Pines' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Point Loma hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338.
