Bloomfield has gone a perfect 5-0 against Grants recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bobcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Bloomfield's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last seven games.
On Saturday, Bloomfield blew past Espanola Valley, posting a 62-12 victory. Considering the Bobcats have won eight matchups by more than 40 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Bloomfield didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Markeith Childress and Andrew Himes.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Grants, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They strolled past Bernalillo with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 32-14. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Pirates considering their 12-point performance the contest before.
Grants found their leader in freshman Julian Fernandez, who rushed for 155 yards and four scores. Those 155 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Fernandez. Isaiah Ortega also helped out with an impressive 84 receiving yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Grants proved: they limited Bernalillo to a paltry 1.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Brandon Wheeler for the heroic effort on defense: he. Grants' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.8.
Grants' defense didn't let Ulisses Castro, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Bernalillo's QB won't forget Gary Chavez anytime soon given he sacked him twice.
Grants pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points over those games. As for Bloomfield, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Bloomfield has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 282.2 passing yards per game. Grants, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 167 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Everything came up roses for Bloomfield against Grants when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 41-6 victory. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
