The Foothill Knights were the 42-38 winner over the Newport Harbor Sailors when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Foothill took a 35-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of Newport Harbor. Foothill just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Foothill lost on Saturday, one person who can't be blamed is Jay Perez. Despite the final result, she dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 18 rebounds, and ten steals. Those ten steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Nella Banuelos, who scored six points along with 14 rebounds.
Foothill struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Foothill has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Newport Harbor, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Foothill will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against El Modena at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Newport Harbor and Edison will face off at 7:00 a.m. on January 4, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
