Chaparral hasn't had much luck against Vista Murrieta recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Pumas will look to defend their home field against the Broncos at 3:30 p.m.
Chaparral is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Murrieta Valley on Friday. They fell 6-1 to the Nighthawks. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Connor Wetzel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Vista Murrieta came tearing into Friday's contest with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Rams 8-2. Considering the Broncos have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Dylan Berentis tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ryland Duson was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jaylen Adams was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Vista Murrieta hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive games.
Vista Murrieta's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Chaparral, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.
Chaparral came out on top in a nail-biter against Vista Murrieta in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Pumas repeat their success, or do the Broncos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
