On Thursday, Mitchell was able to grind out a solid victory over Hernando, taking the game 48-39.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mitchell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tahlia Vazquez, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that Vazquez scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Priya Jacob, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Hernando's loss came despite strong showings from Ayana Kincade and Aislin Ruppe. Kincade scored 17 points, while Ruppe scored 13 points.
Mitchell's win bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Hernando, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mitchell will take on Wesley Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Dayla Christopher and Jacob. As for Hernando, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Central is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
