Calvert is on an eight-game streak of home wins, while Hopewell-Loudon is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Senecas will host the Chieftains at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Calvert will bounce into Monday's match after beating Gibsonburg, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Senecas had just enough and edged out the Golden Bears 4-2. That's two games straight that the Senecas have won by exactly two runs.
Ava Eilrich made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. Eilrich was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Eilrich wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addison King, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Hopewell-Loudon narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Columbian 3-1. The victory continues a trend for the Chieftains in their matchups with the Tornadoes: they've now won four in a row.
Araceli Velasquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sidney Brickner, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Calvert is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games. As for Hopewell-Loudon, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Calvert hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .408. However, it's not like Hopewell-Loudon struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Calvert's way against Hopewell-Loudon in their previous meeting on April 4th, as Calvert made off with a 9-3 win. Do the Senecas have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chieftains turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
