Basketball Recap: Taylor Homan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Crawford over Morrill

If Crawford was riding high fresh off their 58-38 takedown of Edgemont last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Crawford Rams fell to the Morrill Lions 59-54. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rams of the 46-42 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Crawford lost on Saturday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Taylor Homan, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Homan's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhett Flack, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Even though they lost, Crawford was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Morrill to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ashwin Pittman, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. Pittman has been hot recently, having also posted three or more blocks the last three times he's played. Wyler Fisher was another key player, putting up 19 points along with seven boards and six assists.

Crawford's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Morrill, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crawford will host Mitchell at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Homan and Clayton Shultz. As for Morrill, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Morrill Lions challenge the Bayard Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Morrill is facing Bayard at the right time seeing as Bayard is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
