Connally and Lorena are an even 3-3 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Cadets will host the Leopards at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Connally and three for Lorena.
On Friday, Connally ended up a good deal behind Robinson and lost 41-27. While losing is never fun, the Cadets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 361st, while the Rockets are ranked 174th).
Connally might have lost, but man, Caden Coffman was a machine: he threw for 258 yards and four TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 85 yards. Another player making a difference was Braeden Ford, who rushed for 121 yards on only 14 carries.
Meanwhile, Lorena played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 45-21 to Gatesville. The contest marked the Leopards' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Connally will need to focus on slowing down Jaxon Blancett, one of several Lorena players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 375 yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one rushing score. Zachary Espinoza was Blancett's top target, picking up 138 receiving yards and one score.
Connally's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Lorena, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 2-5.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Coffman and Blancett. Coffman just won't slow down this season and has thrown 17 touchdowns while averaging 248.6 passing yards per game. Blancett has been a dominant force too and has thrown 20 touchdowns while averaging 337.6 passing yards per game.
Everything came up roses for Connally against Lorena in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 34-7 victory. In that contest, the Cadets amassed a halftime lead of 21-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
