Baseball Recap: Torres Extends Winning Streak to Six

Torres had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Elizabeth Bulldogs a 10-0 shutout. The Toros might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.

Fernando Flores Ruiz and Robert Vargas made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Flores Ruiz pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Vargas tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Flores Ruiz has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Flores Ruiz scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Vargas went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jouse Solis Rojas, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Angel Tostado was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Torres always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Torres pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Elizabeth, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Torres will take on Jefferson at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Torres 1.6, Jefferson 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Elizabeth, they will challenge Torres at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
