It was a good run, but the St. Lucy's Regents unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 36-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Southlands Christian. While losing is never fun, St. Lucy's can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 421st, while Southlands Christian is ranked 182nd).
Several Regents players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Danika Mejico, who scored 9 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Mejico scored a full 32.1% of St. Lucy's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kira Carroll, who scored 4 points along with 10 steals.
St. Lucy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Southlands Christian, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
St. Lucy's will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Azusa at 4:45 p.m. As for Southlands Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Samueli Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
