The Kennedy Thunderbirds lost against the Chavez Titans back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Kennedy fell 56-47 to Chavez. Kennedy has not had much luck with Chavez recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Kennedy had strong showings from Valeria Payan-Medina, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Kayleen Maes, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Payan-Medina has scored all season. Imaree Curry was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds.
Kennedy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Chavez, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-8.
Kennedy will head out on the road to square off against Taft at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Taft is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. Chavez will take on Shafter at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Shafter's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matchups.
