Healdsburg has gone 8-2 against Piner recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Greyhounds will welcome the Prospectors at 7:00 p.m. Healdsburg will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Healdsburg is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Santa Rosa get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Eric Nielsen tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hayden Mariani was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Nova Perrill, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Maria Carrillo hit Piner with a six-run second inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Prospectors lost 12-2 to the Pumas. The Prospectors have struggled against the Pumas recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Piner saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Schudel, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Healdsburg has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Piner, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-14.
Healdsburg was able to grind out a solid win over Piner in their previous matchup back in April, winning 5-2. Will the Greyhounds repeat their success, or do the Prospectors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
