The Limestone Rockets will head out on the road to face off against the East Peoria Raiders at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Limestone is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Pontiac 15-2 on Tuesday. The Rockets haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Micah Gauerke was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Evan Daxenbichler, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Limestone hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pontiac struck out ten times.
East Peoria came out on top against Limestone on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Raiders took their game against the Rockets 6-1.
R.J. Duncheon made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI.
Duncheon wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Ahrens, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Roman Moody also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Limestone's record now sits at 8-3. As for East Peoria, their record is now 7-3.
Limestone's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. The Rockets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for East Peoria, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Limestone continue to outrun the ball?
Limestone came up short against East Peoria when the teams last played on Monday, falling 6-1. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
