The Bethel Christian Kings waltzed into their match on Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 44-33 win over Calvary Baptist. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Bethel Christian also won the last time the pair played last Thursday.
Bethel Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Alaiah Farley out in front who scored 11 points along with six steals and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Farley has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kaila Ellison, who scored 11 points along with four steals and two blocks.
Despite the loss, Calvary Baptist saw an underclassman step up: Kaylin Crewse almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Calvary Baptist were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bethel Christian only posted three assists.
Bethel Christian pushed their record up to 7-9 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 The Grove School and 0-6 The Grove School (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 21.4% over those games). As for Calvary Baptist, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Bethel Christian will head out on the road to challenge the Titans at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Calvary Baptist, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Ravens at 2:00 p.m. on January 26th. The Grove School comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last ten games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
