With just one week to go in the high school baseball season, the MaxPreps Top 25 is essentially finalized with
IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) finishing No. 1 for the second time in three seasons.
Several states have yet to complete their season, including Indiana, Maine and Wisconsin. While a team like
Andrean (Merrillville) could sneak into the rankings with a win in the Class 3A state championship in Indiana this week, no team is going to catch the Ascenders, who finished with a 24-1 record back in late April.
The final rankings and crowning of the 2025 national champion will be reserved until next week when the season is complete.
The only addition to the rankings this week is
South Walton (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.), which was the only team to defeat IMG Academy this year.
Brother Rice (Chicago) dropped out of the rankings after losing in the Illinois Class 4A semifinals.
Streaks: Pinkerton (Derry, N.H.) lost in the Division 1 state semifinals, ending its winning streak at 31 games and leaving
Governor Livingston (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) with the longest active win streak in the nation at 34 games in a row. The Highlanders won the New Jersey Group 2 championship for the second straight year and finished 28-0 after winning the final six games of the 2024 season. One team to watch, however, is
Underwood, which won its final 17 games last summer to win the Iowa 2A state championship. The Eagles are 12-0 to start the 2025 season (Iowa plays its games during the summer) and has 12 games left in its regular season before it begins the state championship defense.
