Basketball Recap: Lick-Wilmerding Comes Up Short

Lick-Wilmerding and Pinole Valley squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Lick-Wilmerding had to settle for second. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 60-59 to the Pinole Valley Spartans. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Defeat or not, Lick-Wilmerding got some senior leadership from Avery Robins and Hailey Moy. Robins went 10-for-24 en route to 24 points in addition to eight boards and four steals, while Moy went 10-for-18 to rack up 20 points and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Robins has scored all season. Hailey Sapalo was another key player, putting up nine points.

Lick-Wilmerding's loss dropped their record down to 16-13. As for Pinole Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season.

Lick-Wilmerding does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Pinole Valley, they will square off against Justin-Siena at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Justin-Siena will roll in looking for their 18th straight win, something Pinole Valley surely won't give up without a fight.
