It was a good run, but the La Jolla Country Day Torreys unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of McClatchy by a score of 63-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Naomi Panganiban and Mei-ling Perry certainly did their best on Monday to try and avoid the loss. Panganiban scored 28 points along with six assists and two steals, while Perry dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 46.7% of La Jolla Country Day's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Safiyah Sugapong, who scored eight points along with five assists and two steals.
La Jolla Country Day's loss dropped their record down to 14-6. As for McClatchy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Jolla Country Day on the road again on Thursday and play against Bishop's at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. McClatchy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Laguna Creek at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Laguna Creek will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 820th, while McClatchy is ranked 51st).
