If the Pittsburg Pirates were feeling good off their 56-25 takedown of the Deer Valley Wolverines last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The contest between Pittsburg and the Falcons wasn't particularly close, with the Pirates falling 68-53. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Pittsburg in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the loss, Pittsburg still got an impressive performance from Jackie Martinez, who scored 21 points along with two steals. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ali Tautolo, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Pittsburg were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Freedom only posted five assists.
Freedom's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ariel De La O, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. De La O hasn't dropped below three steals for eight straight games. Eve Monzon was another key contributor, scoring 24 points along with four steals.
Pittsburg has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Freedom, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.
Pittsburg will head out on the road to challenge the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Heritage will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Freedom will take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
