Helix is 8-1 against the Monarchs since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Helix Highlanders will look to defend their home court against the Monte Vista Monarchs at 6:30 p.m. Helix will be strutting in after a victory while the Monarchs will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Helix beat the Eagles 41-36. The team ran away with 31 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the win.
Helix's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mykhaila Clark led the charge by scoring ten points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Valerie Marquez, who scored six points along with 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista had to suffer through a rough 62-20 loss at the hands of the Foothillers. While losing is never fun, Monte Vista can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 767th, while the Foothillers are ranked 215th).
Helix's win bumped their record up to 16-6. As for Monte Vista, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Helix against the Monarchs in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 61-20 victory. Will Helix repeat their success, or do the Monarchs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
