The Shafter Generals had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They breezed by Independence on the road to the tune of 63-31. The win was just what Shafter needed coming off of a 58-36 loss in their prior game.
Leading Shafter to victory were Aliyah Escalera and Alexia Ramirez. Escalera scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds, while Ramirez dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Escalera is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Isela Lugo, who scored 11 points along with 3 steals.
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaylynn Bolden, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Bolden scored a full 41.9% of Independence's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ka'Rayah Robertson, who scored 2 points along with 8 rebounds.
Shafter's victory bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-3.
Shafter is on the road again on Thursday and play against Morro Bay at 2:00 p.m. on November 30th. As for Independence, they will face off against Cabrillo at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cabrillo presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Independence in California (Cabrillo is ranked 181st, while Independence is ranked 751st).
