The Canyon Crest Academy Ravens won the last time they faced the Chula Vista Spartans, and things went their way on Monday too. Canyon Crest Academy came out on top against Chula Vista by a score of 46-39. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Canyon Crest Academy.
Sofia Colon was the offensive standout of the contest as she scored 14 points. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Dysart, who scored eight points.
Despite the defeat, Chula Vista saw an underclassman step up: Malissa Mckoy scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. That was a full 46.2% of Chula Vista's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ta'mya Lewis, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Canyon Crest Academy now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Chula Vista, they now have a losing record at 10-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon Crest Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Rancho Buena Vista at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th. Chula Vista will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Montgomery at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. Montgomery presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Chula Vista in California (Montgomery is ranked 404th, while Chula Vista is ranked 889th).
