After a string of three wins, the Holland Patent Golden Knights's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 52-45 defeat to Central Valley Academy. Holland Patent has struggled against Central Valley Academy recently, as their contest on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Several Golden Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Terralyn McLaughlin, who scored 12 points along with six steals. McLaughlin scored a full 26.7% of Holland Patent's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Michaela Cushman was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds.
Holland Patent's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Central Valley Academy, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holland Patent will take on Oneida at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Valley Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Rome Free Academy at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th.
