California City's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Genesis Castillo, who went 8 of 11 on her way to 17 points and eight rebounds, and Malayah Ward, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards. Ward is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season.
Meanwhile, Wasco won against Highland on December 6th with 41 points and they decided to stick to that point total again two weeks ago. Wasco put the hurt on Kennedy with a sharp 41-19 win. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 22 points or more this season.
Wasco found their leader in sophomore Vivian Chavez, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 15 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelynn Juarez, who posted five points.
Wasco has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.4 points per game. As for California City, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: California City has been crazy accurate this season, having made 48.7% of their field goals per game. It's a different story for Wasco, though, as they've only made 34.9% of their shots this season. Given California City's sizable advantage in that area, Wasco will need to find a way to close that gap.
California City was taken down by Wasco 44-10 in their previous matchup back in December of 2015. Can California City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
