After flying high against the Toll Gate Titans on Thursday, the West Warwick Wizards came back down to earth. West Warwick's2023 ended with a 58-44 loss against Pilgrim on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points West Warwick has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why West Warwick lost, one person who can't be blamed is Caden Lapierre. Despite the final result, he scored nine points along with five rebounds. Lapierre also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gregory Benton, who scored 12 points.
West Warwick now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Pilgrim, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Warwick will challenge Exeter-West Greenwich at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Rhode Island (Exeter-West Greenwich is ranked 48th, while West Warwick is ranked 34th). As for Pilgrim, they will head out on the road to face off against Mt. Hope at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Hope is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
