There's no place like home for the Evergreen Valley Cougars, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Saturday. They walked away with a 59-49 victory over Menlo-Atherton on Wednesday. Given Evergreen Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Menlo-Atherton is ranked 334th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Evergreen Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lealah Rowden out in front who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Rowden is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Xuan-Mai Nguyen, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Evergreen Valley's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Menlo-Atherton, their loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 5-4.
Evergreen Valley will be home for the holidays to greet Vanden at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Menlo-Atherton, they will head out on the road to face off against Menlo School at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
