University is 6-1 against Weld Central since October of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bulldogs will challenge the Rebels at 10:00 a.m. University will be looking to extend their current 13-game winning streak.
University's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They blew past Sterling 15-0. Considering the Bulldogs have won 19 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Sydney Goetzel made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Jocelyn Chacon was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Natalie Galindo, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
University kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in eight consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Weld Central fell victim to Wellington and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Eagles, falling 13-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Rebels' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
University's win bumped their record up to 23-2. As for Weld Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. University hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .442. However, it's not like Weld Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
University took their victory against Weld Central in their previous meeting back in September by a conclusive 16-6 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
