The Berthoud Spartans were the 69-60 winner over the Weld Central Rebels when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Berthoud fell 71-61 to Weld Central on Thursday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (56), Berthoud still had to take the loss.
Berthoud's loss came despite strong showings from Reece Stratmeyer and Isaac Erickson. Stratmeyer dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Erickson scored 11 points along with three blocks and two steals. Darin Davidson was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Weld Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dylan Pevler led the charge by scoring 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Branch, who scored 21 points.
Berthoud's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Weld Central, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Berthoud will head out on the road to challenge University at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Berthoud will be up against University's rather soft defense (which has allowed 55.19 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive showing. As for Weld Central, they will be playing at home against Pueblo Centennial at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Pueblo Centennial is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season.
