The Starmount Rams pushed their score all the way to 59 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 67-59 to Surry Central. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Starmount in their matchups with Surry Central: they've now lost five in a row.
Starmount's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jordon Dobson, who scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Lucas Collins who scored 17 points along with eight assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Collins has scored all season. AJ Pardue was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Starmount were working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Leading Surry Central to victory were Tripp Mcmillen and Ayden Wilmoth. Mcmillen scored 22 points along with six assists and two steals, while Wilmoth scored 29 points along with five rebounds. Mcmillen is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Cox, who scored four points along with eight rebounds.
Starmount has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Surry Central, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Starmount will take on North Stokes at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in North Stokes' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine contests. As for Surry Central, they will play host again and welcome Wilkes Central, where tip off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Wilkes Central is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
