Baseball Recap: Albany Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kennedy, Albany was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Berean Christian Eagles as they made off with a 9-1 win. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Willem Loveless was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That run marked the first that he has scored this season.

In other batting news, Albany let Mikey Richards and Preston McGowen run wild. Richards got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while McGowen went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Richards has posted since back in April of 2025. Magnus Williams was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Albany's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Berean Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Albany will head out to square off against St. Helena at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Berean Christian, they will venture away from home to take on Bradshaw Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
