Johnson hasn't had much luck against Islands recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Atomsmashers will head out to challenge the Sharks at 6:00 p.m.
Johnson couldn't beat Beach on Thursday even though they stacked six runs on them in the first inning. The Atomsmashers fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 8-7.
Dashawn Williams was cooking despite his team's loss, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases. That run was his first of the season.
Jenkins typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Islands proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Warriors 12-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sharks.
Andrew Harrison spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Dylan Stewart was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marlon Zaragoza, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Islands kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.
Johnson's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Islands, their victory bumped their record up to 3-13.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Johnson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Islands struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Johnson might still be hurting after the 17-0 loss they got from Islands in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Can the Atomsmashers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
