It was a good run, but the Lathrop Spartans unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 55-41 bruising from East Union. While losing is never fun, Lathrop can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 449th, while East Union is ranked 142nd).
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shakara Porter, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. Porter has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 14 times she's played. Tatiana Lowery was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Lathrop's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for East Union, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
Lathrop will be playing at home against Ceres at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. East Union and Sonora will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
