Atwater has gone 8-2 against Merced recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Falcons will host the Bears at 4:00 p.m. Atwater is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Atwater took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over Edison.
Logan Sanchez was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Andres Reyna was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Merced entered their tilt with Golden Valley on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Cougars a 5-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Bears have won by exactly five runs.
Bryce Jimenez made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Merced is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-15 otherwise. Jimenez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Conner Vitelli, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Vicente Cortez, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Merced's victory bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Atwater, their win bumped their record up to 16-5-1.
Everything went Atwater's way against Merced in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Atwater made off with a 7-0 victory. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
