Basketball Recap: Pueblo Comes Up Short

Pueblo played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Buena Colts and fell 71-30. The game marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Pueblo saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Javier Mancera posted seven points. What's more, Mancera also racked up two assists, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.

Leading Buena to victory were Jamin Booker and Thomas Welker. Booker went 11 for 13 en route to 25 points and eight rebounds, while Welker went 8 of 11 on his way to 20 points and eight boards. Booker is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Cori Vance also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Pueblo's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Buena, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pueblo will welcome Desert View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pueblo is facing Desert View at the right time seeing as Desert View is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Buena, they will be playing at home against Flowing Wells at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Buena's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
