Mater Dei Catholic dropped down to 14-10 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Olympian Eagles, falling 10-3. The Crusaders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 5-3.
Marc Moran was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
As for Olympian, the win got them back to even at 13-13. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Olympian's side, Aaron Gonzalez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched. Gonzalez has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Esteban Diaz was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. He has become a key player for Olympian: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Collins, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
